Climate change involves long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, driven by both natural factors and human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels. Climate change can severely affect livelihoods by causing more frequent and severe weather events.

Below, we will explore the impact on livelihoods due to climate change:

  • Intense storms that damage infrastructure: Looking back at the intense rainy season that was untimely from February to April, we saw major infrastructure damage to our roads: bridges were swept away, fibers were removed from the ground, trees were blown away, floods, and so much more.

  • Disrupt supply chains: We saw a spike in food prices due to bad infrastructure and crops dying on farmlands due to heavy rain and floods. Numerous vehicles taking goods from one area to another couldn’t move due to breakdowns, bad roads, heavy rains, and flooded or broken bridges in return, causing the destruction of goods in transit. We saw this in the coastal, northern, and southern highlands.

  • Loss of life: We faced landslides that took away numerous lives in different cities like Hanang, Arusha, and Dar, where an estimated 155 people lost their lives from the extreme climate change.
