FINCA Tanzania recently extended support to Kaselya Primary School in the Ilemela district of the Mwanza region by donating 70 school desks, a gesture that coincided with the inauguration of the bank’s new branch offices in the North-West region of Tanzania. The desks have the capacity to accommodate more than 250 pupils and are part of FINCA Tanzania’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), with a particular emphasis this year on bolstering the education sector.
The donation was gratefully received by Ms. Mariam Msengi, the secretary of the Ilemela District Administration, who lauded FINCA Tanzania for its efforts in enhancing education infrastructure across the country. Ms. Msengi underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in improving education facilities and reducing poverty levels in society. She urged other institutions to emulate FINCA Tanzania’s example of supporting the education sector, emphasizing the role of education in the government’s poverty eradication agenda.
During the donation ceremony, Mr. Edward Talawa, CEO of FINCA Tanzania, emphasized the critical role of creating a conducive learning environment for students. He announced that the bank’s CSR agenda for the year would prioritize supporting education, highlighting education as a key tool in combating poverty. “This focus resonates with FINCA Tanzania’s overarching mission to alleviate poverty”, he added. Mr. Talawa therefore reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to this cause and committed to ongoing collaboration with the government to tackle challenges within the education sector.
Mr. Chambo Wima, the head teacher of Kaselya Primary School, expressed gratitude for FINCA’s donation, noting that the lack of desks had been a longstanding challenge. He expressed optimism that the additional desks would enhance the academic performance of the school.
During interviews, the pupils expressed gratitude for the donation, with one student noting that improved handwriting would be a direct outcome.
